March is National Nutrition Awareness Month, and at Gary and Mary West PACE, we’re all about helping seniors stay healthy, happy, and independent — starting with good food!

For many older adults living on a fixed income in North County San Diego, eating healthy can feel out of reach. Rising grocery prices, limited transportation, and managing chronic health conditions make it tough to shop for, cook, and enjoy nutritious meals. That’s where West PACE steps in, serving up nutrition support that helps seniors thrive at home.

Fresh, Healthy Meals — Without the Hassle

At West PACE, participants enjoy delicious, nutritious meals prepared with their health needs in mind. Whether they visit our Adult Day Center for lunch with friends or receive home-delivered meals, they never have to wonder where their next healthy bite is coming from.

We also make it fun! Our team hosts cooking demonstrations, nutrition workshops, and meal planning tips that show seniors and their families how to eat healthy on a budget. It’s all about making good food easy and enjoyable!

Expert Nutrition Advice You Can Trust

Every West PACE participant works with a registered dietitian, who customizes a nutrition plan to fit their unique needs — from managing diabetes to maintaining a heart-healthy diet. No one-size-fits-all here! We focus on cultural preferences, favorite flavors, and easy recipes that fit real life.

Helping Seniors Stretch Their Grocery Dollars

For seniors living on Social Security or limited retirement income, eating well can feel impossible. We understand that every dollar matters, so we help participants access affordable, healthy food and teach creative ways to shop smart.

Participant Spotlight – Meet Maria!

Maria, a 72-year-old West PACE participant, loves to share how much the program has improved her life — especially when it comes to food:

“Before PACE, I would skip meals sometimes because I couldn’t get to the store or it was too expensive. Now, I eat healthy meals every day, and the nutritionist even taught me how to make simple soups and salads I love. I have more energy, my blood sugar is better, and I’ve even made friends at the lunch table!”

Good Nutrition = Staying Independent

Eating well isn’t just about food — it’s about staying strong, active, and independent. With the right nutrition, seniors have more energy to enjoy life and reduce the risk of hospital visits caused by malnutrition or unmanaged conditions.
